A Woman that Feareth the LORD
WHAT IS IT TO FEAR THE LORD?
Psalms 111:10 KJV The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.
According to that verse, to fear the LORD is to obey his commandments. How can you obey if you don't know what he says?
I Corinthians 15:34 KJV Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.
FEAR OF THE LORD IS NOT JUST A "FATHERLY REVERENCE"
Hebrews 12:6 KJV For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. 7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? 8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. 9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
God's chastening is compared to a father's throughout scripture. There is no doubt a fatherly reverence that we are to have in God. But to say that the fear of the Lord is just a fatherly reverence is not biblically accurate, although they both have their place.
Hebrews 12:28 KJV Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: 29 For our God is a consuming fire.
In the verse above you can see reverence and the godly fear together. We reverence God for the chastening and fear him because he is a consuming fire. One should not have to fear their father will burn them with fire...but we should fear the LORD would do such a thing (Matthew 10:28).
In the very same chapter (Hebrews 12) it is obvious that the fear of the LORD is a trembling fear....not just a reverence.
Hebrews 12:21 KJ And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:)
BRING IT BACK TO WOMEN
The fear of the LORD is the beginning...
- Proverbs 1:7 KJV The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
- Proverbs 9:10 KJV The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
- Psalm 111:10 KJV The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.
The fear of the Lord needs to be the beginning and foundation of why we do what we do as biblical women of God. What is the fear of the LORD? It has to do with obeying his word because we FEAR what will happen to us if we don't! A woman that does not begin with the fear of the LORD as the reason for her obedience will eventually fall short, become unmotivated or hardened to his word because she did not start with the fear and whatever it was that did motivate her has changed.
Proverbs 14:1 KJV EVERY wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.
Let the fear of the LORD be the foundation of the house that you're building, woman! It should be the foundation of why we...
Stay a virgin
Do not commit adultery
Be obedient to our own husband
Homeschool/Homebirth
Chasten our children with the rod
Cleansing flesh from the filthiness (language, drugs/alcohol, fornication, etc.)
If we continue in the fear of the Lord understanding, knowledge, wisdom, prudence, discretion, instruction, etc. will not fade away! How could we let it if we FEAR what will happen to us if we let it!
