The Requirements Of A Bishop: Be Blameless
Chapter I
To be blameless is a thing that is required of everyone in Christ. Just look at this following verses.
Philippians 2:15 KJV
That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
It is also a thing provided unto all that actually be in Christ, by Christ Jesus our Lord and Saviour.
1 Thessalonians 5:23 KJV
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
However, the thing for a bishop is this plus more. And to put it plainly, the extra bit more a bishop is to be blameless in is simply the rest of what is listed in 1 Timothy chapter 3. To be blameless as a bishop a man must meet all the other requirements of a bishop. This is as straight forward as it gets in the word of God, there is no deeper thing to be understood. Just look at the list for yourself.
1 Timothy 3:2-7 KJV
(2) A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
(3) Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
(4) One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
(5) (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
(6) Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
(7) Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
to brake it down for you, each comma, semicolon, and colon is another thing a bishop must be blameless in according to scripture.
Now all this and more is gone over in this video Bible study, but now you got the basic answer. Nevertheless, for further understanding and edification please open up your KJB and hear out the study in this video.
My personal notes for a bishop must be blameless
Genesis 43:8-10
Galatians 2:11 defining blame
Philippians 2:14-16 we are expected to live blameless. (In 2:15 it says without rebuke. Consider also ecc 1:15 then deut 32:5 and Job 26:13, finally Tit 2:11-12. And as well Colossians 2:8-9 & 16-23, can a man be blamed for philosophy or tradition, compare this also with 1 Corinthians 2:1-5 & 2 Corinthians 4:5.)
1 Thessalonians 5:21-22 KJV Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. (22) Abstain from all appearance of evil.
Philippians 4:5 KJV Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
But this is only in Christ...
Philippians 2:13
Colossians 1:21-23
1 Tim 3:2, 10
Titus 1:6-7
Is there a difference for a Bishop in being blameless from what is commanded of the church? If there is any difference it is only in the things required of a Bishop.
It is blameless in the things of the Lord. Not being blameless in the worlds eyes and standards. (Of course not being a thief, but that is still being blameless in the standards of the Lord right.)
Consider...
Proverbs 29:27
1 Peter 3:16
2 Corinthians 6:8
Now how does this help us as men? Think how your wife can get mad at you, or a child. But you can still be blameless by the things of the Lord even in there sight. This in such a way that they would still know you as a man of God.
Matthew 5:37 KJV But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
James 5:12 KJV But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
At the end of the day we can present ourselves to others in one way, but our family and those we are close to know how we truly are... the question becomes, is it blameless?
