Beware of Fleshly Wisdom
There is so much knowledge in the world today that any question you have in your mind can be searched out online. The problem arises when you allow your mind to be consumed with the wisdom of this world, rather than the simplicity of the truth in scripture.
2 Corinthians 1:12 For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.
Christians have been commanded to be wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil. (ref. Romans 16:19) However, when you search news topics on the internet there is strife, contention, backbiting, being a busybody, filthiness, corrupt communication, and many other works of the flesh. This begins to fill your mind with evil and even cause you to despise government. The same government that God has put into power, the powers that be are ordained of God.
Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
Instead of striving according to the truth in scripture, the mind is filled with fleshly opinions of man. When you go to fellowship with the brethren, all you can think about is the recent news or using scripture as a way to verify the breaking headlines. This should not be so "for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh" (ref. Matthew 12:34). As Christians, we are commanded to preach the word and have our feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. (ref. Ephesians 6:15)
Are you prepared to preach the gospel when your mind is consumed with earthly knowledge and fleshly wisdom?
2 Corinthians 2:14 Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.
2 Corinthians 2:15 For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:
2 Corinthians 2:16 To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?
2 Corinthians 2:17 For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.
How can Christians be a sweet savour of Christ when all their knowledge is on earthly matters?
1 Corinthians 2:1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.
1 Corinthians 2:2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
Are you determined not to know any thing, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified? Or do you come preaching the recent news headlines?
Acts 17:21 (For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.)
Do you agree with this newsperson or do you agree with this newsperson? Partiality, strife, and divisions creep their way in and leaven a group of people. In recent time, I spoke to an old man who said he was a Christian and remarked about the verse stickers on my car. During our discourse he talked more about the recent news headlines than about scripture and the gospel. We could not have fellowship in the Spirit.
The desire for fleshly wisdom is a temptation that all men face. I myself have been caught up in learning about the evil of this world and using recent news to see if Jesus Christ is going to return soon. This is not holding the Head, this will not hinder any evil from coming to pass.
2 Thessalonians 2:7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
Brethren, the way to hinder the mystery of iniquity is to preach the gospel and do the commandments of the Lord Jesus in the epistles. Rejoice evermore, pray without ceasing, in every thing give thanks, memorize scripture. The Lord's will is for all men to be saved. We can be a light in the world if we put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh to fulfil the lusts thereof. (ref. Romans 13:14)
