CHARITY SUFFERETH LONG: chapter I
Suffering long is the first part or aspect of charity out lined in the King James Bible. Lets begin to understand what it is to suffer long as we define what charity is according to the word of God one bit at a time.
To suffer long is to tolerate, or to allow. Consider a child as the start potty training. Even when you show them what to do they still continue to pee their pants and their bed for a time. It is a big life change for them. The same thing is going on when someone first comes to Christ. And charity will suffer long with them to continue to instruct them.
How many times had Christ Jesus given instruction before his death burial and resurrection? Here is one example and in it showing us an example of longsuffering.
Matthew 17:17 KJV Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
..Then the instruction..
Matthew 17:20-21 KJV And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. (21) Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
And we as servants of God are told to flee youthful lusts... selfishness!
And rather to follow charity!
In this we avoid the foolish and unlearned questions, but be gentle and patient instruction those that oppose themselves. Sounds a lot like what Jesus did, doesn't it? Well we are his ambassadors after all...
2 Timothy 2:22-24 KJV Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. (23) But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes. (24) And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
..doing this as an AMBASSADOR..
2 Corinthians 5:20 KJV Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
Side not but even though 2 Timothy was written to Timothy understand he was instructed to teach others also that would also teach other faithful men. It is the line of discipleship in understanding all scripture is given by inspiration of God and it is profitable (2 Timothy 3:16). So do not exclude something making excuses in saying, "but that was for Timothy". It is in the word of God and is for you as well.
2 Timothy 2:2 KJV And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
So with seeing an example in longsuffering from Jesus and also from Paul. Lets open up our KJB and start this Video-Bible-Study.
