How to memorize scripture?

Many struggle with this, and I've heard excuses about this being difficult.

The reality is that with regular effort, and repetition, you'll memorize the scriptures you desire to keep in your heart!

Matthew 12:34 KJV
34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

Write it down!

Using your muscle memory, note down the verse you wish to memorize.

Not only this allows you to think about every letter (and punctuation), it will start to become ingrained in your memory

Proverbs 3:3-4 KJV
3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:
4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
2 Corinthians 3:3 KJV
3 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.

Consider the efforts many scribes have gone through over the centuries (and millenia!) to preserve the word of God.

Write it down again, and again....and again and again!

Write it down at least 3-5 times. By about the third or fourth time, you'll find the words begin to stick in your mind.

Psalm 119:140 KJV
140 Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it.

Along with this blog post, you'll find a video tutorial showing how I write down a verse to help with memorization:

Write it on a piece of paper, and stick on a wall

Also shown in the video, is me writing the verse larger so that I can hang it up on the wall. My wife has also taken my previously drawn verses, and turned them into pretty canvas scriptures, good for both memorization and decoration!

Make a wallpaper with the verse, and use on your computers

Surround yourself with the verse.

The wallpaper can be used for your computer, phone, e-reader, tablet, etc.

The article cover image is the wallpaper I made for my personal and work computer. There's also a smaller version I made for my phone.

Deuteronomy 6:6-9 KJV
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.

Later on, I may also produce a tutorial to show you how you can make a wallpaper of your own!

Audio Recording

Here you will find the audio recording for Exodus chapter 20, verse 7, the example verse I'm using for memorization.
