Hymn: Supported By The Word

Hymn: Supported By The Word
Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
2 Timothy 4:18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

LYRICS:

VERSE 1
Sup-port-ed by the word, Though in him-self a worm,
The ser-vant of the LORD Can Won-drous acts per-form;
With-out dis-may he bold-ly treads
Wher-e'er the path of du-ty leads.

VERSE 2
The haugh-ty king in vain, With fu-ry on his brow,
Be-lie-vers would con-strain To gold-en gods to bow:
The fur-nace could not make them fear,
Be-cause they knew the LORD was near.

VERSE 3
As vain was the de-cree Which charged them not to pray;
Dan-iel still bowed his knee, And wor-shipped thrice a day --
Trust-ing in GOD he feared not men,
Though threat-ened with the li-on's den.

VERSE 4
Se-cure they might re-fuse Com-pli-ance with such laws,
For what had they to lose, When God es-poused their cause?
He made the hun-gry li-ons crouch,
Nor durst the fire his chil-dren touch.

VERSE 5
The LORD is still the same, A might-y shield and tow'r,
And they who trust his name Are guid-ed by his pow'r;
He can the rage of li-ons tame,
And bear them harm-less through the flame.

VERSE 6
Yet we too oft-en shrink When tri-als are in view;
Ex-pect-ing we must sink, And nev-er can get through:
But could we once be-lieve in-deed,
From all those fears we should be freed.
