Modest Apparel

I thank the LORD Jesus for showing me how I was using the word MODEST wrong according to scripture. The word MODEST has the same root word as MODERATION. And it means the same. Not too much, not extraordinary. Do what is natural, what is seemly, and what is becoming of a woman professing godliness. Now is the time that we, as biblical women of God, need to let our moderation be made know, through dressing modestly.

Philippians 4:5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

I Timothy 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; 10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

It is almost to simple...(simplicity in Christ II Corinthians 11:3) the scriptures tell you exactly what modesty is by telling you what it is not in the passage.

"...not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array..."

It has nothing to do with how much skin is showing, or how tight someone's clothing is. The words for that in scripture is expressly clear. It's called your SHAMEFUL NAKEDNESS. So when we see someone's nakedness, remember that it is not a modesty issue. It is just simply their nakedness being seen.

Anything from the loins to the knees is your nakedness according to scripture.

Exodus 28:42 And thou shalt make them linen breeches to cover their nakedness; from the loins even unto the thighs they shall reach:

THE OPPOSITE OF MODEST APPAREL IS GOODLY APPAREL OR GAY CLOTHING

James 2:2 For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; 3 And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:

We all know when we spend to much time and money on our appearance. When studying this out I read a few articles from church-building-goers that agreed with the scriptures that wearing your "Sunday best" goes contrary to the word. However, they remain hypocrites because they know it and continue doing it. But there was a particular article that I came across where they were very flamboyant and believed that "giving God your best" means to dress your best. But in reality, it doesn't matter what you put on. It is your inward man that God cares about.

I Peter 3:3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; 4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

Proverbs 22:2 The rich and poor meet together: the Lord is the maker of them all.

A DEEPER REASON WHY TO DRESS MODESTLY

In James 2:2 (posted above) it mentions "vile" raiment. This is the same word that is used to describe our bodies.

Philippians 3:21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

We are to dress modestly now because be will be glorified later. Those who dress in goodly apparel with costly array are experiencing their "glorified body" now. This is a reflection of what is going on in their spirit. This also applies for those who expose their shameful nakedness by wearing revealing clothing. It is because their spirit will also be going before the LORD on judgment day in their shame.

Revelation 16:15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.

Jude 1:13 Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.

I John 2:28 And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

Our bodies are mortal. We are going to be clothed upon with a glorious body (Phil 3:21).

II Corinthians 5:1 FOR we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: 3 If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. 4 For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.
