The Gap Theory Is False Two Times Over
There are two ways that the "gap theory" is taught. In this post we will see that both do not have any true standing within the word of God.
The First Theory
- The first is more commonly taught, trying to make excuse for teaching evolution. It says there are thousands, millions or even billions of years between Genesis 1:1 & 1:2. They do this to go along the idea of dinosaurs and cave men claiming the age of the earth is billions of years old. This delusion kept growing by millions of years, in less than one hundred years during the 20th century until reaching 4.54 billion years old they claim today. All effectively to accept another THEORY created by man about the earth that goes contrary to the word of God.
The answer to this is quite simple. There is no gap in Genesis chapter 1, The Lord is simply describing to us the process of creating the earth. And when he created the heaven and the earth, at first, it was without form and void. I mean if you only keep reading, God does not make the dry land in the earth until verse 9 & 10 in Genesis chapter 1. This was on the third day when God also created the grass and herb yielding seed in verse 11-13. The cavemen, mammoths and land dinosaurs would have a hard time living without any land. And as far as I know they have never claimed to have found a caveman with gills to breath under water.
Genesis 1:9-10 KJV And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. (10) And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
And this bogus theory of a gap in Genesis chapter 1 is completely unprovable. That is why it is still called a theory. The same goes with the evolution theory and the age of the earth... but all I care about is building your faith in the word of God to receive it to say what it means and mean what it says.
There is also the other matter aside from the dry land. But the sun and moon were not created until the fourth day in Genesis 1:14-19. Billions of years is a long time to go without any sun light or even stars or the light of the moon for all the life that was around. And on this point, if they want to say there is thousands of years between each day of creation... well all plant life needs the sun. Either it was only one literal 24 hour day from the time God created the grass and trees, then the next day the sun. Or all the plants went for thousands or even billions of years without any sun light!
Genesis 1:16 KJV And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
The question is not "what does this mean", when it comes to the creation in Genesis chapter 1. But rather the question is, can you believe what is written?
Our faith comes from hearing the word of God according to Romans 10:17 KJV, not following some theory of philosophical understanding. And faith is the evidence of things not seen as it is written in Hebrews 11:1 KJV, faith is not in science. Furthermore, the evidence of God is in the creation, just looking at the earth as it is told us by God in Romans 1:20-21. And just as it is written in Romans chapter one, man does not want to fully glorify God, but instead they bring the power of God down to only their understanding of a thing.
Romans 1:19-21 KJV Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. (20) For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: (21) Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
The Second Theory
- The second theory is falsely called "the gap fact". This is along the same lines as the first saying there was a gap between Genesis 1:1 & 1:2. But even going on to say it was another earth entirely.
To show the plainness of the matter up front, the word of God tells us that the earth we are on now is the first earth.
Revelation 21:1 KJV And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
This second theory is more complex and deceptive in how it is presented. And it was primarily taught and called the "gap fact" by Dr. Peter Ruckman, but there are others who have taught it also. (Other notable deceivers are Tracy Yates, Michael Pearl and Geoffrey Grider.) These men are greatly spoiled by philosophy to stumble at the word of God and accept the nuttiness of a gap theory. I will cover how they present this supposed "gap fact" for full transparency, but just remember Revelation 21:1. And understand the first earth is only passed away after the thousand year reign of the Lord Jesus Christ on the earth according to scripture. Also remember that the sun and moon were never created until the fourth day in Genesis 1:14-19. So what earth was there without the sun really!?!?
So Ruckman and all the Ruckmanites in this proclaimed "gap fact" teach this by twisting scripture around and implying a meaning. They use 2 Peter 3:5-7 primarily quoting "the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now" for their teaching on this to say "which are now" means there was a different earth. Implying to scripture, claiming there was another world/earth before Genesis 1:4 and the beginning of creation. As stated already and the simple point that will be brought up again. Did God just have to recreate everything? Consider how much has to be implied to the word of God for this teaching. What creatures, men, trees, grass, sun and moon was there in "the world that then was"? The WORLD does not always mean the earth in scripture, but instead it is talking about a dispensation.
- Consider in the same book the following verse. And ask if there was then another earth made here as well, with the same logic???
2 Peter 2:5 KJV And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
- Or continuing with the same logic as if was there another earth... is there another earth after the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord???
Hebrews 9:26 KJV For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
And so considering these two passages we can see the beginning of a new dispensation, not a new earth. (Refer to the four times dispensation is mentioned within scripture in 1 Corinthians 9:17; Ephesians 1:10, 3:2; Colossians 1:25, for a better understanding of what a dispensation is.)
... Now to explain how a dispensation is a new world ...
For this think more about how Sea World or Disney World are a world; These are a world within the world/earth we all live in. Or think of the term used when people are zoned in on something or just not paying attention saying "they are in their own world". This is what a dispensation is, it is a new world. The way the world works has changed from one dispensation to another. Primarily this is concerning salvation and or the way to have favor with God. However, this is not in every case as sometimes it is a change of an ordinance God had established, changing the way the world works. And in 2 Peter 3:5-7 is telling us of the difference that God was putting things in to existence for what will be with all the ordinances of the land, the sun, the beast of the field etc... etc... Consider how it was a new dispensation after the flood of Noah and God changed one of these ordinances, the way the beast behaved, or how living things are meat now for man... as it is written...
Genesis 9:2-3 KJV And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered. (3) Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.
There is a difference that occurred by the working of God, from the way beasts were before and after the flood here.
And the earth that was without form, and void. Also it was in the midst of the waters according to Genesis 1:2 & 1:6 before God divided the waters. This is all 2 Peter 3:5-7 is getting at. We should not imply a hidden gap of time to Genesis 1:1-3 and imagine a vain earth that existed without the sun, moon and stars. Such a thing is only a private interpretation and is adding to the word of God.
2 Peter 1:20 KJV Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
Proverbs 30:6 KJV Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
To conclude; both of these gap theories add to the word of God. All who have taught any gap to be in the creation have been found to be liars. They are teaching a private interpretation of the scriptures after their own imaginations. And the proof is in the word of God which is already settled in heaven for ever as the final authority!
Psalms 119:89-96 KJV LAMED.
(89) For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.
(90) Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.
(91) They continue this day according to thine ordinances: for all are thy servants.
(92) Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction.
(93) I will never forget thy precepts: for with them thou hast quickened me.
(94) I am thine, save me; for I have sought thy precepts.
(95) The wicked have waited for me to destroy me: but I will consider thy testimonies.
(96) I have seen an end of all perfection: but thy commandment is exceeding broad.
So what God say's goes. The Lord is the final authority for his word.
His word means what it says, and says what it means.
Do you receive it as truth or rely on mans wisdom for the matters of God?
Is Christ God or not? Are not the words of Christ the words of God and visa versa?
1 Corinthians 2:4-5 KJV
(4) And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: (5) That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
John 6:63 KJV
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
Colossians 3:16 KJV
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
