The Law of Kindness

The Law of Kindness
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. (Ephesians 4:32)

The Law of kindness is to return kindness for kindness, whether it be directly to the person kindness was received from...

Genesis 21:23 KJV Now therefore swear unto me here by God that thou wilt not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son’s son: but according to the kindness that I have done unto thee, thou shalt do unto me, and to the land wherein thou hast sojourned.

... or the household of that person...

II Samuel 9:1 KJV And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?

...or even to a people...

I Samuel 15:6 KJV And Saul said unto the Kenites, Go, depart, get you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them: for ye shewed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.

In scripture, it usually involves a death...

Ruth 2:20 KJV And Naomi said unto her daughter in law, Blessed be he of the Lord, who hath not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead. And Naomi said unto her, The man is near of kin unto us, one of our next kinsmen.
II Samuel 2:5 KJV And David sent messengers unto the men of Jabesh-gilead, and said unto them, Blessed be ye of the Lord, that ye have shewed this kindness unto your lord, even unto Saul, and have buried him. 6 And now the Lord shew kindness and truth unto you: and I also will requite you this kindness, because ye have done this thing.
II Samuel 10:1 KJV And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his stead. 2 Then said David, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father shewed kindness unto me. And David sent to comfort him by the hand of his servants for his father. And David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.

When looking at the law of kindness I was looking for instruction for it because one of our examples for women is the Proverbs 31 virtuous women.

Proverbs 31:26 KJV She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

The law of kindness is found in her tongue. So, this means that she is opening her mouth and speaking with others on this law of kindness. What kind of thing could this woman be found saying?? (hint: it has to do with the gospel)

This virtuous woman would for sure be found dealing with people kindly and truly. There are two times that the scripture deals with kindness and truth...

Joshua 2:12 KJV Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the Lord, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father’s house, and give me a true token:
II Samuel 2:5 KJV And David sent messengers unto the men of Jabesh-gilead, and said unto them, Blessed be ye of the Lord, that ye have shewed this kindness unto your lord, even unto Saul, and have buried him. 6 And now the Lord shew kindness and truth unto you: and I also will requite you this kindness, because ye have done this thing.

There is another virtuous woman named Ruth. The book of Ruth mentions kindness twice. Ruth showed kindness in that she stayed with her mother in law and did not return unto her people, the Moabites, or their gods. Boaz was exercising the law of kindness when he took knowledge of her, and returned kindness to her by giving her more in his fields to glean (Ruth 2:20). He also showed the ultimate kindness toward her in doing the part of the kinsman redeemer.

Ruth 3:10 KJV And he said, Blessed be thou of the Lord, my daughter: for thou hast shewed more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as thou followedst not young men, whether poor or rich. 11 And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman.

The story of Ruth and Boaz is a type of the church and Christ. Just as Boaz did the part of the kinsman redeemer, Christ has redeemed us and has purchased us with his blood.

I Peter 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

Jesus dying on the cross, and rising again, for our sins is the ultimate kindness.

Ephesians 2:7 KJV That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
Titus 3:4 KJV But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

CONCLUSION:

The law of kindness that is found on the tongue of the virtuous woman is THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST. The death that is usually involved in the law of kindness in the Old Testament passages are pointing directly to Jesus Christ's death which is God's kindness to us. The kindness that we show back to the LORD is obeying his commandment to be ambassadors for Christ, ministering the word of reconciliation to the lost (II Corinthians 5:17-21). And, yes, this means woman should share the gospel! That is the law of kindness...it is required of you.

There is no law against the fruit of the Spirit...

Galatians 5:22 KJV But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

*notice how "kindness" is not directly listed there as part of the fruit. That is because THE LAW OF KINDNESS does in fact have a law against it. If kindness is not shown for kindness there will be punishment.

II Chronicles 24:22 KJV Thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, The Lord look upon it, and require it.

The same goes for those who regard not the kindness of the Lord Jesus Christ. How they who know that Jesus died for their sins, and rose again, but do not keep it in memory, these people will have the law of kindness executed on them to the fullest extent of God's law. (And not in the nice way.)

Hebrews 10:28 KJV He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: 29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

I hope this study has brought a better understanding of what it means to have the law of kindness on your tongue! Get to preaching the gospel, sisters!
