The Scriptures Command Singing
Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
Ephesians 5:19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
Ephesians 5:20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
These are scriptures that Christians must keep in memory. God hath commanded us to sing and give thanks to him. This is even our reasonable service to God for the grace he hath bestowed upon us through Jesus Christ.
Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
I grew up attending a building that most call a "church". Here I heard and sung many hymns and spiritual songs. Throughout my life I participated in school choirs and even further when I was a part of a college choir for one year. However, the Lord had other plans with me in Christ Jesus. After leaving college I asked the Lord to shew me his will for my life in Christ. Then, I read Ephesians 5:18-19 and Colossians 3:16. As I began to play hymns on the piano and sing songs while doing scripture studies I knew that God was guiding me to this ministry of song.
Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.
The playlist I have posted here contains the acapella singing of psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. My fervent prayer to God is that he will stir up your spirit to fulfil his words by singing praises to his name! May there be more brethren who fulfil the will of God in this manner and may we be able to join together in song one day!
Romans 15:5 Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:
Romans 15:6 That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
(Side note: The phrase "Make a joyful noise" is commanded seven times in the scriptures. We are to make a joyful noise unto God, so do it! Psalm 66:1, Psalm 81:1, Psalm 95:1,2; Psalm 98:4,6; Psalm 100:1.)
