LYRICS:

The Youth of the World by Carl Harold Lowden

VERSE 1
We have heard thy call, Lord Je-sus,
And our hearts re-spond with joy;
We will pledge thee our al-le-giance,
For thy cause our all em-ploy.

REFRAIN
The youth of the world for the man of Gal-i-lee!
The youth of the world from all sin and self set free!
Ev-ery tal-ent pledged in ser-vice
Now and through e-ter-ni-ty,
The youth of the world for the man of Gal-i-lee!

VERSE 2
Where-so-e'er thy chal-lenge leads us,
What-so-e'er shall be the test,
On-ly make it known, dear Mas-ter,
And we pro-mise thee our best.

VERSE 3
Ev-ery tal-ent thou hast giv-en
Not for hid-ing, but for use;
All our time is of thy lend-ing
To be spent as thou shalt choose.

VERSE 4
What-so-e'er we are or have, Lord,
Shall be sub-ject to thy will;
Trust us with thy great-est task, Lord,
And we will be faith-ful still.

The song author writes "And with pride our hearts shall thrill" for the last line of verse 4. Lyrics changed to "And we will be faith-ful still."

(Refrain is the same for each verse)

SINGING WITH THE UNDERSTANDING:

The scriptures say:

1 Timothy 3:6 KJV Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
Matthew 23:12 KJV And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
Matthew 20:26-27 KJV 26 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; 27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:

Proverbs 16:5 KJV Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
1 John 2:16 KJV For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

If the author wanted to describe the responsibility you feel when you're tasked with something great they could have said it differently in a way that could be sung in truth and not iniquity. A servant should not be prideful when tasked with something but should think of himself as unprofitable, lowly, humble. Only the Lord can help us do his work.

John 15:5 KJV I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Luke 17:10 KJV So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.
