Why Jesus is Set Down on the Right Hand of the Majesty, ANSWERED!
The scriptures very plainly tell us how Jesus is set on the right hand of the throne.
Hebrews 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?
Hebrews 8:1 NOW of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;
Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
The scriptures are also very clear with the fact that Jesus is sitting on the throne, not just beside it.
Revelation of John 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
Revelation of John 4:2 And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.
Just to prove the ONE on the throne is Jesus:
Revelation of John 4:8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.
Revelation of John 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
And also IN the midst of the throne...
Revelation of John 5:6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
Now, to speak expressly, it is JESUS who is the Majesty...
II Peter 1:16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
Hebrews 8:1 NOW of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;
The question seems to be, "HOW is Jesus on the right hand of the throne but also on/in it???"
Satan has posed this question with subtilty to beguile some into believing the Trinity teaching, that God is three separate persons. But to answer this question with the simplicity of Christ...
1. God is one (Galatians 3:20; I John 5:7)
2. God is everywhere (Psalm 139:7-10)
3. There is significance to the right hand and the physical body of God (Hebrews 8:1 priestly)
4. Jesus is excepted until Revelation 20 (I Corinthians 15:27-28)
The right hand is a priestly position of honour, but also the place of an adversary
OF HONOUR
Hebrews 8:1 NOW of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;
OF AN ADVERSARY
Zechariah 3:1 AND he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him
Satan can stand at the right hand, too. He wants to be as God (II Thessalonians 2:3-4) Why would he not beguile mankind into thinking that Jesus is a second person to God and separate from him by sitting on the right hand, and take that seat to himself?
Leviticus 8:22 ¶ And he brought the other ram, the ram of consecration: and Aaron and his sons laid their hands upon the head of the ram.
23 And he slew it; and Moses took of the blood of it, and put it upon the tip of Aaron’s right ear, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot. 24 And he brought Aaron’s sons, and Moses put of the blood upon the tip of their right ear, and upon the thumbs of their right hands, and upon the great toes of their right feet: and Moses sprinkled the blood upon the altar round about.
This is a shadow of the heavenly:
Hebrews 8:1 NOW of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; 2 A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man. 3 For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer. 4 For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law: 5 Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount. 6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.
The law was given to Moses in a pattern that is a shadow of heavenly things. The right hand of the priest was to be consecrated which signifies the consecration of the right hand of God.
To consecrate is to set aside by a holy anointing for the priest office (Numbers 3:3, subtle Satan does this too I Kings 17:5,12).
The blood of consecration of the right side of the priests prophesies of the consecrated JESUS.
Hebrews 7:28 For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.
This is also the position of the mediator.
Galatians 3:20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.
I Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
Hebrews 8:6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.
Hebrews 9:15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
Hebrews 12:24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
A mediator is the middle man between two parties. We see part of being a mediator is being an advocate (I John 2:1) and intercessor but mostly it has to do with priestly duties of atonement and sanctification.
Romans 8:34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
Jesus will be here on the right side of the Majesty until mankind has no need of a mediator and the enemy has been put under the feet of Jesus. There is no "mediator of one". This means that one person does not mediate for himself. And that makes sense...why would you send yourself as middle man to do your business? That would be "taking out the middle man" and just doing it yourself. But God is one, yet he has excepted Jesus for a time to be the mediator between God and man. This is another way how Satan subtly deceives religious people into believing that God is three persons.
I Corinthians 15:24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. 25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. 27 For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith, all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him. 28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.
Jesus being excepted from God for now is for us as the high priest and mediator.
Hebrews 9:15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. 24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:
Why is he sat down verses standing?
Hebrews 10:11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; 13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. 14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
THE EXCEPTED (I Cor 15:27) IS EXPECTING (Heb 10:13) …
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
The significance of sitting is that his work is FINISHED (John 19:30). He doesn’t need to stand daily as the earthly priest did. Subtle Satan likes to subvert some from the simplicity of Christ and ask, “why is he standing in Acts 7:56. Which is a really good question but it does not change that the scriptures tell us he is sat down now after Acts 7. (i.e. Paul didn’t get saved until Acts 9 and he is the one it was revealed to (Hebrews 1:3). Don’t get distracted by the devil with these questions that have theological (philosophical) answers rather than answers in scripture.
HEAVEN IS HIS THRONE
Acts 7:49 Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest?
If heaven is his throne then Jesus must be above the heavens to sit on it or beside the throne.
Ephesians 4:9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
And this is why Jesus said Andrew and John did not know what they asked for when they asked to be sat at his right and left hand,
Mark 10:37 They said unto him, Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left hand, in thy glory. 38 But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask…
THE RIGHT HAND IS A PLACE OF HONOUR BUT SUBTLE SATAN SNEAKS IN
Jesus is honoured of the Father. The right side of the throne is given to the most honoured.
John 8:54 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:
John 17:1 THESE words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
By that seat, he is honoured above all angels, authorities, and powers.
I Peter 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: 22 Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.
But look how Satan can use it for his own glory.
I Kings 2:19 ¶ Bath-sheba therefore went unto king Solomon, to speak unto him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her, and bowed himself unto her, and sat down on his throne, and caused a seat to be set for the king’s mother; and she sat on his right hand. 20 Then she said, I desire one small petition of thee; I pray thee, say me not nay. And the king said unto her, Ask on, my mother: for I will not say thee nay.
21 And she said, Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah thy brother to wife.
22 And king Solomon answered and said unto his mother, And why dost thou ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? ask for him the kingdom also; for he is mine elder brother; even for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruiah. 23 Then king Solomon sware by the Lord, saying, God do so to me, and more also, if Adonijah have not spoken this word against his own life.
24 Now therefore, as the Lord liveth, which hath established me, and set me on the throne of David my father, and who hath made me an house, as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death this day.
25 And king Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he fell upon him that he died.
Satan used Solomon's mother, Bathsheba, to try and reach Solomon and persuade him against the will of God. And the same is how Satan is using the fact that Jesus is seated on the right of the throne to deceive people into believing that God is three separate persons.
